Colleagues from ENEA Italy, one of the participants in the CEN workshop on Industrial Symbiosis, presented the consensus definition and core elements of industrial symbiosis as agreed in the final draft of the CEN workshop Agreement, due to be published the month (November) by CEN. Chair of the CEN workshop Dr Rachel Lombardi said "We hope that this industrial symbiosis pre standard will be of value to policy makers and businesses a like in having a common understanding of industrial symbiosis, which can only help in bringing future implementations to scale. Recent amendments to the Waste Framework Directive to explicitly include industrial symbiosis will also help by providing member states with the framework to take action.
