Despite the current dramatic Covid-19 situation, Fomento San Sebastian, the municipal innovation agency, remain aware of the importance of innovation as a tool, so as a way to get out of this crisis stronger than ever as an innovative ecosystem, decided to maintain the organisation of the VIIth Donostia Innovation Week-Donostia Weekinn.

The organisation made a strong effort to keep putting its citizens at the heart of this event, mixing it with key factors as collaboration and technology to maintain the city's strong bet for innovation as a social and economic model for its development.

Centered around the notion of “Superchanges”, as something that suddenly changes the world as we know it, more than 25 activities were organised and offered through our WeekINN TV Channel, through online channels, as well as a few activities that were organised within a socially distant space.

This way, we were able to overcome one of the Covid-19 challenges: in person interactions.

We could appreciate that the city´s ecosystem is demanding innovation and exchanging about new ways of collaboration, new technologies to “sail” the crisis, and new ways of understanding this whole situation to remain competitive and be able to adapt our ways of living to the new situation. This led to the collaboration of 40 different entities of the city, and to an unprecedented consumption of the different activities organised.

As always, Fomento San Sebastian completed strong work with the local educational ecosystem, organising different programs linked with coding, programming, 3D design, and working on different personal skills linked to Innovation that were a success: more than 20 different centres took part during the WeekINN 2020, with more than 1,000 students enjoying this programme.

The Donostia WeekINN Escape Room, the Donostia Minecraft Challenge, Labsland- worldwide connected labs-, or a Gymkhana centred in the story of innovation of the city were some of the activities offered to our youth.

Hoping to come back to a normal situation, the general conclusion was that Innovation has to be the engine to keep improving our city, and that it will remain the DNA of the city to keep building a bright future.
