The implementation of the action plan of the Region of Central Macedonia is underway to achieve its main objective towards strengthening cooperation in the energy utilization of biowaste among businesses and institutions of the region. The Action Plan consists of two actions:
- The first action facilitates the transfer of innovation/R&D to SMEs active in bio-economy and agrifood products, through ERDF funding from the Regional Operational Programme.
- The second action aspires to institutionalize a support structure for the biowaste value chain in the organization of the Region of Central Macedonia. A call for proposals was published titled "Innovation Vouchers for SMEs of the Region of Central Macedonia” where a total of 47 applications were submitted and are under evaluation. Furthermore, the One Stop Liaison Office of the Region of Central Macedonia has conducted a survey among SMEs and Organizations of the Region where circular economy has come up as one of the two most important themes of intervention of the current RIS3. Based on the above results, consultations are on-going between the Directorate of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Support and the Thematic Vice Governor for Development and Environment on the possibility of creating a Support Structure with and environmental orientation which with act as a promoter of Circular economy and other environmental issues.
