On October 3rd to 5th, 2018 the ECOCITY organized the ECOCITY FORUM 2018 "Circular Economy in Smart Cities”. BIOREGIO took this opportunity to disseminate the project to the public in the Central Macedonia Region, Greece. The concept of the forum focused on the dissemination of the collective global knowledge on circular economy issues, as well as on raising public awareness and mobilizing national and regional administration towards interconnectedness of today’s global challenges.

About 150 people coming from various sectors such as environmental scientists, industry and tourism stakeholders, academics, local and central government authorities participated.

Prof Nicolas Moussiopoulos head of the Laboratory of Heat Transfer and Environmental Engineering, AUT (who in collaboration with the Regional Development Fund of Central Macedonia on behalf of Central Macedonia run the BIOREGIO project in Greece), presented the scope of the project, as well as the opportunities and challenges of the circular economy model in the ”Energy from waste and Circular economy” session on October 4th.

On October 5th during chairing the session "Sustainable Management of Forest Residues and Organic Waste" prof Moussiopoulos introduced audience to the benefits of bioeconomy on biomass flows and the Deputy Regional Governor for Development and the Environment, Mr. Gioutikas Konstantinos, who also participated in this session, acknowledged the important input of BIOREGIO project towards the development and update of local policies. All of the participants were very interested in BIOREGIO project and the expected outcomes towards a circular economy.
