BIOREGIO was present at “Industrial symbiosis for valorising whey and banana wastes and by-products for the production of novel foods” workshop, organized on 28 September 2018 by the Laboratory of Food Chemistry and Technology, Department of Chemistry of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
The Workshop was held at the Aristotle University Research Dissemination Centre (KEDEA) located in Thessaloniki, Greece and among others, disseminated the research findings of the SYBAWHEY project (H2020–MSCA–RISE–2015).
The main focus was the potentials of materials’ (waste and by-products) as well as non-material based resources (knowledge and transferable skills) exchange via international and intersectoral mobility between Africa and Europe.
The one-day event was a good opportunity to present BIOREGIO project. Mrs Chrysanthi Kiskini, head of European Union Projects Department at Regional Development Fund of Central Macedonia (who in collaboration with the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki runs the BIOREGIO project in Greece), chaired the roundtable titled “Toward the development of a sustainable bio-based economy at global, national and regional level”. She introduced participants to the BIOREGIO project circular economy Good Practices identified and invited them to discuss more on the field of bio-based circular economy.

The approximately 50 participants represented local and governmental authorities, industry representatives from Cyprus and Greece as well as academics from: School of Spatial Planning and Development (AUT, GREECE), Department of Agricultural Economics (AUT, GREECE), Department of Chemistry (AUT, GREECE), Department of Processing & Technology, Kyambogo University (Uganda), University of Birmingham (UK), Department of Agricultural Sciences, Biotechnology and Food Science, Cyprus University of Technology (Cyprus).
