On 3 December 2018, the main Wallonia cybersecurity actors, including Multitel, CETIC, Infopole Cluster TIC - IT cluster federation, and Agence du Numérique/Digital Wallonia organised a launch event in Namur, Belgium, for a new regional mechanism for cybersecurity awareness among SMEs.

The new Wallonia regional mechanism was presented by Pierre-Yves Jeholet, Minister of Economy and Digital to the Walloon Government, in a wider European context by mentioning Wallonia region as an active project partner to Interreg Europe CYBER. At this occasion, Interreg Europe CYBER was promoted to distinguished institutional representatives, regional cybersecurity providers and local SMEs attending.

The Belgian Centre for Cybersecurity (i.g. a federal institution, acting among others as a Belgian CERT) and the Federal Crime Computer Unit highlighted the need to support local SMEs in the digital transformation and called for more awareness on the threats posed by cybersecurity to the local ecosystem.
