In 2016, the Ministry of Energy drafted an Energy Strategy Project for the period 2016-2030, and time horizon 2030-2050. The need to develop a new Energy Strategy before 2020 is related to the time required to develop and legislate such a document, the new market and technology development situations, as well as the commitments made by Romania as a member of the European Union.
The vision of the Romanian Energy Strategy is to increase the energy sector in terms of sustainability. The development of the energy sector is part of the development process in Romania. Growth means:
- Building new capabilities
- Upgrading and modernizing energy production, transport and distribution capacities
- Encouraging the growth of domestic consumption under energy efficiency conditions
- Boosting energy export
The national energy system will thus be safer and more stable. Romania has the necessary resources to increase the energy system, and it must be prepared to support the development of industry and agriculture, the economy as a whole, as well as improving the quality of life in both urban and rural areas. Capitalizing on these resources is the basis of sustainable development.
Romania will continue the process of integration into the European energy markets, making an important contribution to energy stability and security.
