The Metropolitan Development Agency of Thessaloniki SA - Joint Intermunicipal Company of Thessaloniki Metropolitan Area (MDAT), Lead Partner of the DESTI-SMART prtoject, successfully held the 1st Local Stakeholder Group Meeting on the 27th of November 2018 in the Thessaloniki Science Center NOESIS.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Thessaloniki Transport Authority (TheTA), Center of Research & Technology Hellas (CERTH), EGNATIA ODOS S.A., ERGOSE S.A., as well as of ATTIKO METRO S.A., the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the Municipalities of Thessaloniki, Pilea Hortiatis and Delta.
The meeting was focused on the "DEVELOPMENT OF ALTERNATIVE LOW-CARBON TRANSPORT SYSTEMS THROUGH DEVELOPMENT OF SYNERGIES BETWEEN PUBLIC & PRIVATE SECTOR". The meeting's aim was to bring together public and private organistations from the city's transport and tourism sector and tiger a disscution on the way and in which direction the Action Plan of MDAT would be developed by the end of Phase 1 of the DESTI-SMART project.
MDAT, along with the Local Stakeholder Group aim at the promotion of two (2) alternative transport systems with environmentally friendly features and high added value for the tourist infrastructure of the city:
- the URBAN SEA TRANSPORTATION and
- the WEST URBAN RAILWAY
The Plan will focus on the interconnection of Tourism and Transport as an important element of the Resilient Thessaloniki Strategy for 2030, which constitute the policy instrument to be improved by MDAT within the project's implementation.
In accordance with the Local Action Plan entitled "FAST ALTERNATIVE CONNECTED ECOMOBILITY, THESSALONIKI TOURISTIC TRANSPORTATION", MDAT will work towards the interconnection of the major transport hubs (Airport - Port - Railway Station - Metro - Urban Bus Stations - Shared Bikes - TAXI Stations - Interurban Bus Station) promoting transport interoperability and facilitating the tourist and visitors' flows.
The Local Stakeholder Group, plays a very important role towards the realisation of MDAT's initiative within the DESTI-SMART project and its active participation and contribution to the projcet's activities is of great value for both MDAT's objectives and the project's ones.
