The second Local Stakeholders Group Meeting in Thessaloniki was held on June 27, 2019 in the Council Hall of the Municipality of Thessaloniki.

The progress of the Local Programme for Thessaloniki regarding the development of the Urban Sea Transportation and the methodology of the joint questionnaire surveys aiming at developing a Feasibility Study for Thessaloniki were among the topics elaborated in the meeting. Moreover, the good practices from the first DESTI-SMART Thematic Workshop on “Low-carbon transport systems for visitors at tourist destinations” held in Hastings, UK in March 2019 were also presented.

The meeting attended representatives of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Municipalities of the Metropolitan area of Thessaloniki, the Center for Education & Rehabilitation for the Blind, EGNATIA ODOS SA and the private sector.

Among the meeting’s participants were Mr. Mitrou, a representative of Lloyd's Register, a leading organization and maritime classification society providing technical and business services, who referred to the effort that has been made to promote e-mobility in maritime sector through the ELEMED project. The actions implemented included risk assessment, ship design, technical studies for port facilities (charging positions). Also, alternative sources (wind, sun) for energy production were investigated. He also presented the prospects of short distance coastline transportation using electricity and highlighted the need for the development of a new institutional framework.

The next Local Stakeholders’ Group meeting will take place after the second Thematic Workshop which will take place in Bremenhaven, Germany, in September 2019. At the same time, from July to October 2019, the questionnaire surveys will take place, where important conclusions will be drawn which results will be also presented in the second meeting.
