One of the challenges that the City Administration of Rome has to face in terms of mobility in the post-COVID emergency time is to ponder the future of its SUMP.
At the beginning of 'Phase 2', mobility managers of public and private companies were invited to propose and discuss solutions to guarantee the sustainable mobility of employees in the re-opening of the activities. Noticeably, the impact on mobility due to daily commuting is indeed one of the main concerns of the city administration.
In May, different online expert panels with relevant mobility managers took place to jointly identify the best strategies to ensure that the objectives set by the SUMP in 2019 are still pursued.
Two meetings were held in May 2020 involving separately the public (52 ministries/bodies) and the private sector (65 companies) that respectively expressed their ranking of priorities. Both identified cycling, smart-working and sharing mobility as the top measures to support in this phase.
Therefore, a massive surveying activity has been carried out in two steps. One with Authorities and Companies, to understand the willingness to incorporate actions to support smart-working and to promote soft and sustainable mobility; the other with employees to measure the willingness to change their mobility habits. The results of the survey are coming up soon.
