An initial stakeholders’ workshop has been organized during the peer review with a main focus on identification of problem areas and in accordance with the municipal leadership’s initiative to develop a new tool for SMEs support. The experts from „Tecnalia“ recommended specific measures and solutions to be implemented according to the companies’ needs after the peer review.
The analysis has shown that many developing companies exist in Gabrovo with a great potential for innovations. This could be a real base for the future sustainable local economic development. The existing innovation eco-system has to be restructured and to include new participants in the innovation chain in order to improve the collaboration between business and educational institutions. Such intermediate organizations could be consultant agencies, centers for competences, technology transfer centers etc. One of the main tasks is to increase innovative culture of local companies, as well as R&D capacity through development of R&D departments in SMEs. The partner recommended also encouraging B2B collaboration through development of joint projects and cooperation in priority sectors as mechatronics, lift machinery manufacturing, PVC production, electronics, pure technologies etc.
MEETING WITH THE MAYOR OF GABROVO MUNICIPALITY MRS. TANYA HRISTOVA
Representatives of Technical University – Gabrovo, local companies, Gabrovo Municipality, Gabrovo District Administration, Gabrovo Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Regional Office of Bulgarian Industrial Association, District Information Center, young entrepreneurs and innovators took part in the stakeholders’ initial workshop. The main idea is the stakeholders’ group to become the base for establishment of an Advisory Council for economic development and innovations to the Mayor of Gabrovo Municipality.
VISIT IN MECHATRONICA SC - GABROVO
The Advisory Council will work for development of SMEs support system, including a monitoring and evaluation system. Another main objective will be the internationalization of business through increasing the knowledge for the international markets and participation in international fairs and exhibitions. Gabrovo Municipality will be a mentor of the process, and it will support the development of efficient SMEs support system and provision of additional incentives, to encourage innovations.

The experts from „Tecnalia“ visited three Gabrovian companies („Mechatronica“, AMK and „Podem Crane“) and participated in an official meeting with Mrs. Tanya Hristova – the Mayor of Gabrovo Municipality, Bulgaria.
