For their sixth meeting, the EURE partners focused on good practices in recycling, energy efficiency and air quality monitoring thanks to an online study visit organised by the Alba Iulia Municipality.

To explore this topic, the study visit featured a panel discussion on the importance of the European funds in increasing the administrative capacity of eligible beneficiaries, the presentation of three case studies, and three good practices.

Between 2012 and 2015, Alba Iulia modified its integrated waste management system to improve its waste management performances and comply with European requirements. It saw the construction of an ecological landfill, transfer stations, sorting and mechano-biological treatment facilities. In parallel, existing storage sites that did not comply with European requirements have been closed and rehabilitated. Regarding services, selective collection has been implemented and the coverage area with sanitation services at the level of Alba county extended.

To increase the quality of life on its territory and reduce carbon dioxide emissions, Alba Iulia increased energy efficiency in public educational buildings and implemented renewable energy production systems, in addition to thermal rehabilitation. One of such buildings was the Sports High School.

Participants of the study discovered these two projects in detail and got to know the results achieved.
