TransWalls: fostering the use of public transport among visitors while travelling

Wednesday 22 March 2017, 15:30 - 16:00, Table 2

This project aims to homogenize the way visitors relate to the local public transport system while travelling, to remove barriers to the use of public transport and therefore, to reduce the use of the car. To elaborate regulations to help to reduce the carbon footprint of urban and interurban mobility of EU citizens traveling to other cities and regions of the EU will be the main objective. There are European regions that receives a large number of visitors in relation to their local population. Unfortunately non-residents favor the use of individual means of transport disadvantaging the existing collective transport. This puts a huge pressure on infrastructures, causes high mobility costs at destination, considerable increase traffic jams, etc., leading to high carbon emissions and other forms of pollution that could be minimized by appropriate policies that foster the use of public transport among visitors.
