Improving regional attractiveness through cultural and natural heritage
Regional actors need to protect cultural heritage in the form of assets that are inherited from the past and are the reflection and expression of values, identities, religious and other beliefs, knowledge and traditions. Furthermore, the natural heritage in the form of ecosystems and vulnerable landscapes has to be protected to prevent soil degradation and biodiversity loss. The sustainable management and exploitation of the cultural and natural heritage can also foster sustainable regional development. Regional actors involved in the management of such heritage must therefore define coordinated, place-based strategies and actions that balance measures of preservation with sustainable exploitation of heritage.
