Extremadura is going to build the largest photovoltaic plant in Europe, with 500 MW of power, it will involve an investment of almost 300 million euros and will assist to 250,000 inhabitants. The project wants to become a spearhead to ratify the leadership of Extremadura, Spain and the European Union in the transition towards a more sustainable energy system. The plant will occupy an area of close to 1,000 hectares and will generate enough clean energy to supply 250,000 people, a figure higher than the population of the cities of Cáceres and Badajoz, and a quarter of the inhabitants of the whole region.
This project will also prevent the emission of 215,000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere per year, reinforcing the commitment to the protection of the environment and the mitigation of global warming in Extremadura.
