The regional stakeholder event on Friday 13th December 2019 at Boerkok in Lelystad was a success. During this meeting, the FlevoFood Association called out for a stronger cooperation between farmers and food businesses, knowledge institutes, financial organisations and regional government. The enthusiasm and decisiveness of all partners was clearly present to contribute to a local, fair, healthy and economic successful food system in Flevoland.
Perspectives of sustainable food system in Flevoland
Mark Frederiks (Taskforce Short Chain, Local2Local), Kees de Jonge (Rabobank Amsterdam), Martin Topper (FlevoFood Association) and Katharina Prause (Province of Flevoland) presented their perspective and actions towards a sustainable food system in Flevoland. How are stakeholders connected? And how do they create added value? It became clear that transparency is key. Those four stakeholders will work closely together to create a supply system for regional food for the Amsterdam Metropolitan Region, with over 2 million inhabitants.
After the presentations the event continued with interactive sessions to collect ideas and contributions on how to establish a short food supply chain in Flevoland by focussing on the topics data, logistics, tools and reach.
The event ended with a presentation and a call to action. The results of an inventory of which food products are produced regionally and are available for the short food supply chain was shown. Surprisingly, the product assortment was quite broad and for a great amount also available for the entire year. The FlevoFood Association called for action to set out a survey to get insights in the food needs of each organisation. With this tool the demand and supply of regional food can be matched and will form the basis for the future actions.
