Clusters and regions’ role as enablers of the circular economy in Poland
On November 9th and 10th, 2020, the VI Congress of Polish Clusters took place on-line. The subject of this year's congress was a discussion on the role of clusters in supporting the regional development policy created at various levels: EU, national and regional, especially in the context of the new EU financial perspective and the unprecedented global crisis caused by the COVID19 epidemic.
During the congress, a lot of time was devoted to discussing the role of clusters in the implementation of the Next Generation EU Facility, which assumes not only huge funds (750 billion Euro) supporting development but also a new approach based on "economic ecosystems" connecting industry and service sectors based on common value chains. As a result, European companies are to be not only more competitive but also greener.
One of the panels of the Congress, entitled “Ecosystem of the green economy”, was devoted to the clusters and regions’ role as enablers of the circular economy and resource efficiency. Clusters in Poland are key business support organisations, and many of them now focus on resource efficiency challenges, helping SMEs to set up circular value chains and implement resource efficiency measures. Regions, on the other hand, are operators of EU funds and can directly influence the shape of SMEs support in this regard.
One of the organizers of the VI Congress of Polish Clusters was the West Pomeranian Chemical Cluster "Green Chemistry", and the Marshal of the West Pomeranian Region took the honorary patronage over the event.
