Young & Sustainable Entrepreneurship: Barresi Award - Metropolitan City of Bologna implements the Action Plan for GREen Startup Support

To improve policies for SMEs' competitiveness by strengthening capacities to trigger and support formation of sustainable and competitive green start-ups and spin-offs, MCBO has just started the first operational phase foreseen by the action plan approved in June.

In line with the 2.0 Agenda for the Sustainable Development of the Metropolitan City of Bologna, the Barresi Prize will aim at companies led by young people who, with foresight and creativity, are achieving development within their business and striving for the well-being of people and our home, the Earth.

From 19 September, it will be possible to participate and apply to the 2022 edition of the Barresi Award, which will reward sustainable businesses led by young people.

This year there will be selected three Young Enterprises, one of which operates in the tourism sector, which will receive a grant of 7,000 euros each and will access the numerous opportunities available. It will be possible to apply until 28 October 2022.

The Award aspires to micro and small businesses already established, active and duly registered in the Business Register, led by people with an average age of fewer than 36 years on the expiry date of the call, and operating in the metropolitan city of Bologna.

Thanks to the GRESS learning process, MCBO had the opportunity to analyse some good practices and get new insights on how to better support start-ups applying in the business competition Premio Barresi. Moreover, among the findings of the GRESS survey disseminated to the stakeholders, the difficulty in seeking supporting instruments emerged. As a result, specific measures for application support have been implemented.

It should lead to improving the services for the start-ups participating in the Premio Barresi competition, tackling in particular Objective IV.2 of the Metropolitan Strategic Plan, the main current Policy Instrument of the Metropolitan City, aiming at encouraging youth entrepreneurship through innovative ways. This enhanced management of the selected Policy Instrument (Type 2 of policy change) should lead to new business growth with a particular focus on the environment through delivery of improved MCBO services for green start-ups, therefore encouraging new talents and new jobs in green businesses
