On 28 May 2018 a round table was organized in the framework of the EU Green Week in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria by lead partner – the Employment Service of the Regional Government of Canary Islands (SCE). This event with regional stakeholders and institutions was an opportunity for the mapping of the Training and Skills needs in the green, blue and circular economies. Representatives of different regional companies and organizations attended the round table: Femepa (Federación Provincial de la Pequeña y Mediana Empresa del Metal y Nuevas Tecnologías de las Palmas), ULPGC (Universiad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria), ECOS Estudios Ambientales y Oceanografía, Ewaste Circular Economy, CCOO Comisiones Obreras Canarias, UGT Canarias and the Canarian General Directorate of Tourism Promotion and Management.
The current system of identification of training needs currently used by SCE was described to stakeholders and analyzed in detail, along with the process for establishing specializations of professional training for employment. SCE's multi-year training offer was also presented, inviting the stakeholders to make their own contributions and proposals to be taken into account for the next programming cycle. In addition, stakeholders were invited to provide specific feedback on the needs for training in companies working in green and blue sectors.
In the coming weeks, in collaboration with the round table’s participants, the lead partner will produce a report on training and employment priorities in green, blue and circular economies in the Canary Islands and it will share it with the GROW RUP partnership and on project website. Stay tuned!
