Nordregio organized on 21st and 22nd of February 2018 the second HIGHER Innovation Summit. The objective of the Stockholm Innovation Summit was to share best practices surrounding the topic of interregional collaboration through smart specialisation in building partnerships and clusters in a post-Brexit world.

The Stockholm Innovation Summit took place over the 21st and 22nd of February 2018, at Nordregio. HIGHER’s project partners were invited to share their experiences, best practices and insights on interregional collaboration through smart specialisation, with a focus on cluster building in a post-Brexit world. The discussion centred around the future funding mechanisms for S3 following Britain’s sessecion from the EU, with regards to e.g. the ERDFs.

Some of the speakers were Niclas Forsling (Nordic Council of Ministers), Jens Sörvik and Cecilia Johansson (Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth), Michael Barnes (Greater Cambridge Greater Peterborough Local Enterprise Partnership), Jonas Örtqvist Länsstyrelsen and Erik Stenberg (KTH University), Geoff Archer (East of England European Partnership), Joana Pinheiro, (CEiiA City Lab), Esa Kokkonen (The Baltic Institute of Finland), Sophie Meuwissen and Sam Goddall (Cambridge Cleantech), Ioannis Spandos (Regional Development Fund of Central Macedonia) and Alessandro Mucci (Abruzzo Region).

The second day took a deep dive into the various circular economy initiatives hosted by the project partners, and their cluster building and transnational initiatives. For instance, experiences from Lithuania, Catalonia, Sweden, Finland, Värmland Region, Stockholm or Peterborough.

The day was concluded with a study tour, visiting three examples of best practice of circular economy sites across Stockholm.   

The summit was organised by John Moodie, Senior Researcher at Nordregio, and is the 2nd in the series of Innovation Summits initiatied by the HIGHER project.
