(Pescara, Italy): Study visit and thematic workshop has been organised by Abruzzo Region on 24-25th of October 2017. It was the first project meeting after the Kick Off meeting in Coventry. The chosen topic for the Study visit and Workshop were Transport Trends and How we will move in the next future.
The Study visit was attended by all the Project Partners together with their stakeholders coming from different context, such as universities, enterprises, municipalities and research institutes.
According to the chosen topic “Transports Trends”, the agenda of the day was divided into two sections: in the morning the site of the visit has been the Ortona’s harbour in the Province of Chieti. The lieutenant Salvatore Basilicò has presented the infrastructure and the commercial development of the harbour, by also explaining the VTMIS national platform for the exchange of maritime data that has been implemented by the Maritime Authority and the IT innovation developed to improve port services (ARGES programme).
In the afternoon the participants moved to the Interporto of Abruzzo located in Manoppello in the Province of Pescara, which is the inter-modal hub and the logistics district of Abruzzo, made up of a number of structures which have the capacity to catalyse and facilitate both incoming and outgoing traffic.
The Director of the Structure, Mosè Renzi, explained their activities and all the most recent trends of multimodal and logistic freights.
Afterward project partners and stakoholders attended the presentation of Polo Cluster INOLTRA, which is the Regional Innovation Center of Abruzzo in the field of transport and logistics and promotes the development of affiliated companies through research and innovation, both in the commodity and passenger sectors, in every modal field, through a close relationship with the system research and advanced services.
Its Director, Mrs Emanuela Di Luca, together with her partners, has outlined the activities of the cluster and the state of art, the actions in progress and the vanguards of the last technological innovations in the field of the “last mile” flows and city logistics concerning the urban distribution of goods and related problems (congestion, pollution, etc.).
The first day ended with the visit of the logistics warehouses of the Interporto, which cover a surface area of 86,500 sq.m., in line with international standards for modern logistics.
The second day was dedicated to the Workshop and it discussed the EU Funding and its policy framework and why it is important to invest in innovative transport. During the workshop Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan of Municipality of L’Aquila was also presented. The role of the Transport Cluster which strengthens relationships between industries and universities and is important for the development of the South of Italy was also mentioned.
