Financial assistance mechanisms in EU countries can help financing energy-efficient renovations.
Renovations to make a building more energy efficient can be costly, and some owners may not be able to afford them. Financial instruments provided by EU countries, the European Investment Bank (EIB), and the EU itself may be able to assist in resolving this issue and closing financial and investment gaps.
Several funding streams are available at the EU level for financing building renovations. The European Structural and Investment Funds (ESIF), the European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI), Horizon 2020, and the ELENA facility are among the most important.
Between 2021 and 2027, more financial instruments shall be developed. There is also a new LIFE programme which contains 4 sub-programmes. Additionally, the Renovation wave, strategy under the European Green Deal, will have a strong financial component.
