The INDU-ZERO project aims to renovate the twenty-two million houses in the North Sea Region built in 1950-1985 that are producing 79 Mton of carbon emissions annually. The major problems facing this region is the current status of renovations underway – the pace of renovations is too low, renovation costs are too high, and properties not renovated to Net Zero Energy Buildings (nZEB) standards will continue emitting CO2, further delaying the time frame for a large uptake of deep retrofit. As a result, the targets of the Paris Agreement, the Long Term Strategy of the EU and the ambitions of the Green Deal will not be met given the current trajectory.
The fifteen partners in the Interreg North Sea Region are cooperating in the INDU-ZERO project to develop a blueprint for a Smart Renovation production facility to fast-track current progress and meet the targets of the Paris Agreement. Developing the blueprint for a Smart Renovation Factory will upscale the whole renovation process and in turn lower the costs and increase the pace by developing renovation packages. It predicts a result in a yearly increase of production from 500 to 15,000 houses, and 50% decrease in cost.
INDU-ZERO aims to lead the carbon reduction in Europe by enhancing the future renovation rate and produce comfortable, cleaner, and warmer homes for European families.
