The Climate Ambassador Programme is Ireland’s first ever initiative to train and support individuals taking action on climate change. This programme is co-ordinated by the Environmental Education Unit of An Taisce with the support of the Department of Environment, Climate and Communications.
Past and present Climate Ambassadors are people from all different walks of life, age group, and corners of the country committed to climate action. Through the programme they are given support and platform to take positive climate actions within their communities and making change happen.
Climate Ambassadors receive training which covers the causes and effects of climate change as well as the solutions, communications, and climate action planning. This year, training events and Network Gatherings on various themes such as permaculture, renewable energy communities, biodiversity, peatlands, and more are taking place online due to Covid-19. Climate Ambassadors are also given a branded metal pin badge and an FSC certified wooden USB, full of useful materials to assist in carrying out climate actions and communications.
So far, the Climate Ambassador programme has trained 404 Climate Ambassadors and engaged 530,785 people.
The Environmental Education Unit of An Taisce operates some of Ireland’s most successful environmental programmes including Green-Schools, Blue Flag, Green Campus, Clean Coasts and National Spring Clean.
