INTERREG EUROPE interregional cooperation program
Project: INVALIS - “Protecting European Biodiversity from Invasive Alien Species”
On May 31st 2021, ICETA organized EU Wide Policy Event on Zoom, within project INVALIS – “Protecting European Biodiversity from Invasive Alien Species”, implemented in partnership with regions of the European Union, through the INTERREG EUROPE Interregional Cooperation Program.
Promoting cooperation between public authorities and local actors directly interested in addressing the challenges associated with invasive species, along with improving regional development, policies in the field of protection and development of natural and cultural heritage, is one of the specific objectives of the INVALIS project.
In this event we discussed measures and policies for the prevention, early detection, control and eradication of invasive alien species in natural ecosystems in the European Union.
We benefited from the participation of representatives of international public and private authorities, to promote inter-regional learning and define a coordinated approach for the management of invasive alien species across the EU.
Specifically, we explored the following:
- How is Europe addressing marine invasive alien species in 2021;
- Project LIFE INVASAQUA;
- From prevention to biological control - what we have been doing to manage invasive plants
- The colonization of Europe by the red-billed leiothrix (Leiothrix lutea) and the importance of studying interactions involving exotic birds
- Invasive alien species – EDIA’s experience
