Cáritas and the Andalusian Energy Agency will work together against energy poverty
They have signed a collaboration agreement to promote training measures and pilot initiatives with renewable energies within the framework of the POWERTY project
Improving energy efficiency and renewable energies are useful tools to reduce energy poverty, by helping to reduce energy consumption and facilitating the access of vulnerable groups to better isolated and healthier homes. Based on this premise, the managing director of the Andalusian Energy Agency, an entity attached to the Regional Government of the Presidency, Public and Interior Administration and European Finance and Finance, Francisco Javier Ramírez, and Mariano Pérez de Ayala, President of Cáritas Regional of Andalusia, have signed a collaboration agreement to help the most disadvantaged people to take advantage of renewable energy and energy efficiency to combat energy poverty.
Among the main lines of action of the agreement are the development of joint initiatives that facilitate access to renewable energy for vulnerable groups, including pilot experiences based on the creation of local energy communities. In addition, the dissemination of energy efficiency aimed at reducing energy consumption and associated spending will be promoted, through training workshops, training of trainers and other measures specifically designed for these groups, and opportunities for labor insertion for vulnerable groups will be identified in the renewable energy and energy efficiency sectors.
This collaboration agreement arises within the European project POWERTY (Renewable energies for vulnerable groups), led by the Andalusian Energy Agency (AEA) and of which Cáritas is part of the group of stakeholders, which aims to provide vulnerable groups affected by energy poverty with access to safe, clean and efficient energy through renewable energy.
Within the framework of this initiative, the exchange of good practices and successful experiences is promoted with the rest of the European regions participating in the project in different areas linked to energy poverty, such as the identification of new innovative renewable energy technologies aimed at vulnerable groups, new formulas for financing renewable energies suitable for these groups, improvements in the regulatory framework, and empowerment of vulnerable groups and social innovation to stimulate citizen participation of these social groups.
