Durham County Council was delighted to host the 7th REBUS Partner meeting on the 5th and 6th September in the historic Durham City, in north east England.
Partner organisations and their stakeholders were officially welcomed to the meeting by the Durham County Council Chairman and Mayor of Durham City, Cllr John Lethbridge.
The meeting focused on the key outcomes for the REBUS Project partners: their Action Plans and the Energy Renovation Pathway that is being developed collaboratively by all partners.
The site visit included a trip to the Durham Energy Institute which is a multi-disciplinary Institute within Durham University. We learned about the general work of the Institute and specifically two projects that the University is working with Durham County Council to explore. One being the opportunity to use Minewater to heat a large Leisure Centre/ sports venue in Stanley, north Durham. The other is a residential household project incorporating smart technology into a solid wall insulation project.
The winning pupils were Sophie Evans, from Coxhoe Primary School, and former Wearhead Primary School pupil, Lucy Nattrass, who now attends Barnard Castle School.
The new name is Eco2 Smart Schools which will have its own dedicated website www.eco2smartschools.org.uk . The programme works with over 240 schools each year to support them to be more energy efficient through behaviour change and investigating opportunities for capital investment in energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies.
At the end of the meeting Durham County Council and its partner charity OASES took the opportunity to relaunch their school energy project. The two winners of the new name and logo competition attended with staff from their schools to see the finished design and to receive their prizes.
