Berlin Calling! The REBUS partners convened in Berlin this December for a workshop with external stakeholders on alternative financing models, discussions on the final Energy Renovation Path, a study tour to Freie Universität (Free University) Berlin‘s Sustainability & Energy Management Department ...and perhaps a visit or two to the traditional German Christmas markets. The two-day international exchange event was hosted by REBUS’s German partner, the European Institute for Innovation.
Day 1 of the exchange event was kicked off with a presentation by Eckard von Schwerin from the KfW Bank speaking about KfW’s promotion of municipalities through energy efficiency loans and grants. External expert Britta Schmigotzki then presented on the ‘’Transposition of Building Related EU Energy Efficiency Directives into National Buildings Refurbishment Policies’’, followed by the partners’ discussion on action plans and next steps for REBUS led by Miriam Siciliano of Resolvo.
Day 1 concluded with a presentation and study tour hosted by Andreas Wanke, Director of the Department of Sustainability & Energy Management at Freie Universität (Free University) Berlin, which provided partners with insight on alternative funding schemes and methodologies for energy renovations in public universities/buildings in Germany.

The following day of the meeting was comprised of discussions led by Miriam Siciliano (Resolvo) on the future of REBUS during Phase 2, including dates for the REBUS mid-term events and final partner exchanges. Following a detailed financial overview, the partners also went over implementation and monitoring activities within
Chris Ashe, Director of the hosting organisation European Institute for Innovation, hosted a communication workshop for the partners to ensure REBUS would be effectively communicated and disseminated within and outside the project, even well beyond the project lifetime.
Highlights from day 2 include a presentation by DCC’s Steven Bowyer on ‘’Key learnings from Heerlen (NL) Minewater Project’’, which explored the potential of using mine water as a Low Temperature Heat Resource during energy production.

Overall, this December’s REBUS partner meeting and exchange event in Berlin was interactive, collaborative and fruitful. Partners were eager to share their latest experiences within their regions, as well as their inspirations from the REBUS project during the past years.
