On Friday 17th June 2022, the RECREATE project partners participated to the Policy Learning Platform online discussion on the topic of 'Resilience of the regional economy and adjusting the business support ecosystem'.
In the past two years, the two crises due to the pandemic first and the Ukraine-Russia war later, have brought new challenges to European regions. As a result, local policymakers had to react in the short term, but also consider long-term adjustments.
Among Interreg Europe project partners, there’s s a wealth of knowledge also due to the extension of some projects to study the changed environment. The event was organised to discuss the path towards long-term vision and how to build resilience of local economies, and facilitate learning from each other.
Some projects and regions representatives shared their experience and the knowledge gathered within their project:
- Dr Barraí Hennebry, Researcher, School of Business, Munster Technological University, Cork, Ireland, FOUNDATION project;
- John Fitzgibbon, Head of Hampshire Brussels Office, Hampshire County Council, UK, EIS project;
- David Hope, Business Delivery Manager, Coventry City Council, UK, RECREATE project.
It followed a lively discussion between participants that highlighted several key points crucial for a more resilient economy:
- The importance of strengthening business adoption of digital and green deal practices .
- Internationalisation to diversify risk through wider exposure to more markets.
- Collaboration between regional actors at all levels, as well as between business support organisations.
- More widely promotion of innovation.
