On Thursday 29th June 2017, cities located in Emilia-Romagna and all stakeholders involved in the preparation of SUMPs came together in the regional capital, Bologna, to exchange on the topic of SUMPs and the relation between the regional authority and the cities.
In the morning, the local cities and stakeholders were given presentations by representatives of the region Emilia-Romagna about the national and regional SUMPs frameworks. These presentations were followed by presentations from the other REFORM regions, namely Central Macedonia, Parkstad-Limburg and Greater Manchester. They all presented good sustainable urban mobility practices.
The afternoon session was open to cities' representatives only. Representatives of the major cities exchanged on their respective plans, issues, difficulties and opportunities. Cities of the region proved to be enthusiastic about the concept of SUMP. They all welcome the financial support of the region which is conditioned to the adoption of a SUMP in a certain time frame. They also welcome the opportunity given by the region to meet with other cities and exchange with their counterparts at events.
The main common issue identified by the cities is related to participation and institutional cooperation. As the concept of SUMP is relatively new in Italy, the participation process is still to be defined for most of the cities.
The presentations and the report of the REFORM workshop can be found here.
Both meetings were organised by the region Emilia-Romagna and ITL (Istituto sui trasporti e la logistica). They were organised in conjunction with the 2nd consortium meeting (27th and 28th June).
