The REFORM project was very active during the SUMP Conference, which took place in Nicosia (Cyprus), on 14-15 May 2018.
The project coordinator, Ms Maria Morfoulaki presented REFORM, its activities and objectives in a session about SUMP and multi-level governance. She presented the wide variety of regional frameworks for SUMPs and the key role that the regional authorities could play in the adoption of SUMPs at the local level. Due to its particular focus on regions, the REFORM project is expected to contribute to the update of the European SUMP guidelines, in participating to the inclusion of the regional aspect in the SUMP 2.0 concept.
In addition, to the presentation, REFORM was also present in the exhibition area, with a stand shared with other INTERREG mobility projects.

The conference launched the revision process of the SUMP Guidelines, the European Commission’s guidance document on urban mobility planning. Since 2013, around 1000 cities have adopted a SUMP.
A number of sessions discussed how the new guidelines should incorporate current and future developments in urban mobility, such as automation and ITS, MaaS and shared mobility and alternative fuel infrastructure. Some sessions discussed extensions of the SUMP Guidelines to areas, including, of course, regions.
The Cypriot Minister of Transport Vasiliki Anastasiadou and the Mayor of Nicosia, Constantinos Yiorkadjis addressed the Opening Plenary, which attracted some 500 attendees.
