The theme of the tour on Tuesday 19th Sep. was ‘Cycling tourism and opportunities for cooperation in the leisure sector’. The tour attracted more than 50 participants to exchange experiences, best practices and provide new networking opportunities.

Drenthe has the ambition to become the cycling province in the Netherlands. This could form the perfect ‘umbrella’ for many businesses catering to tourists and recreational cyclists and provide an enormous boost for the leisure economy in Drenthe.

During the tour we saw concrete examples of how to adapt to cycling tourism and the doors this has opened for entrepreneurs in holiday areas. There were inspiring presentations – including one on Rural Growth by Catrien Scholten – and great interaction amongst the participants who were clearly stimulated to cooperate even more.

So what did we take away at the end of the day? “Working together makes us stronger - we can achieve more”. “By choosing one or two themes, combining and sharing we can create a real story for our region”. It sounds like we’ve got the message!
