The City of Reggio Emilia, within the CIVITAS Programme, has organised a workshop and a study visit for 6 cities across Europe willing to improve school mobility management policies.
The cities of Krusevac – Serbia, Labin – Croatia, Leon – Spain, Strangnas – Sweden, Soissons – France and Sarajevo – Bosnia Erzegovina attended the 2-day visit organised last October by the Mobility Department of Reggio Emilia, which is also partner of School Chance.
The participants had the opportunity to get to know directly the policies and several measures Reggio Emilia has implemented over the years following a multidisciplinary approach and with the direct involvement of schools and stakeholders. School mobility in Reggio Emilia is an important part of the urban mobility strategy: the city has been committed in promoting a wide range of measures from over 10 years, involving thousands of students, but also parents and teachers.
During the first day, technicians of the Mobility Department explained the general mobility strategy of the city, the EU project School Chance and the policies and measures implemented to improve home-school mobility. The second day started with a site visit to different schools of the city to observe the different projects and infrastructural interventions realised, and to discuss with teachers, mobility managers and parents. The final session of the meeting was devoted to transferability and all the participants had the opportunity to discuss together how the lessons learned during the visit could be implemented in their cities.
