The Municipality of Monfalcone invited stakeholders and control authorities to a Webex virtual conference on January 29th 2021. The objective of the meeting was to present the activities of the Smooth Ports project and to define and share actions foreseen within the framework of the Monfalcone activities.
The meeting was started by providing a general overview of the project activities and objectives. The carbon footprint analysis in the Port of Monfalcone was presented as part of the presentation. The data collection for this analysis was done in collaboration with Port Network Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea. The data collection, as many other things, were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and thus faced delays. After discussing the results, the presentation continued with providing an overview of the two Good Practices selected for the Port of Monfalcone. Good Practices, together with the status quo data acquisition, are part of the "roadmap" to the Action Plan that each partner has to develop as part of the Smooth Ports project. Lastly, the presentation continued to point out the current proposals for the Action Plan:
- Installation of three detector aimed to count passage of trucks / level of polution
- Feasibility study for car sharing
- Realisation of electric or LNG recharging points
All suggestions are focussing on the emission reduction in the port areas. The Port of Monfalcone is closely linked to the city, therefore the above actions will potentially not only reduce the emissions caused for port related traffic, but also that more counted towards city traffic.
The meeting was an initial discussions on potential actions and more stakeholder exchange will take place, as Monfalcone continues to draft their potential Action Plan. The final Action Plan is due by the end of 2021.
