Reduction of CO2-Emissions ejected by Heavy-Duty-Vehicles
As lead partner of the 4th call Interreg- Europe Project SMOOTH PORTS the Ministry of Economy and Innovation of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg is pleased to receive the interim report on “Reduction of CO2 Emissions ejected by heavy-duty-vehicles in the port of Hamburg” conducted by Hanseatic Transport Consultancy (HTC). The main purpose of the study is to find solutions to reduce the CO2 emissions from port-related road traffic.HTC is close to finalizing the project study on the status quo of CO2 emissions caused by trucks in the area of the Port of Hamburg. Considerable progress has already been made in the previous research period, as the interim report impressively shows. Numerous promising measures to reduce greenhouse gases have been identified so far. At this point only a few measures should be highlighted as representative. In the category traffic management measures like “DIVA” or “Slot Booking Platform” promise to be highly effective to guarantee a smoother traffic flow in the port area and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to a considerable extent. Combined with an intelligent container management ensured by digital solutions like MYBOXBPLACE or EVE (Effective depiction of the traffic situation) the number of empty container transports can be minimized and traffic jams can be avoided. All these innovative approaches will lead to a reduction of unnecessary CO2 emissions. For Hamburg the Interreg-Europe SMOOTH PORTS project is a valuable contribution in the execution of the present climate plan and to achieve the goal of making the port of Hamburg climate-neutral by 2050.The final report of the study will be released in October.
