In light of transitioning towards a circular economy, companies are looking for ways to optimize their business models and processes. Industrial symbiosis, one of the enablers of this shift, builds on bringing companies together to exchange materials and share services, infrastructure and logistics. This is how companies foster their competitiveness, which in turn helps improve spatial planning and ensures balanced regional development. In the long run, such innovative collaborations bring benefits to the environment and a wider society.
The real meaning and role of industrial symbiosis has already been recognized and implemented abroad. Kalundborg in Denmark was among the first ones in the world to successfully introduce this concept; we invited representatives of the Kalundborg Symbiosis to share their experience, results and future plans. We also invited representatives of industrial symbiosis Kemi-Tornio from Finland, who will highlight an extremely interesting case of revitalization of an abandoned industrial zone.
A number of foreign and Slovenian guest speakers will discuss the synergies between industrial symbiosis and effective spatial planning, estimate the market potential of industrial symbiosis and outline the possibilities for implementing regional industrial symbiosis projects. Participants will also look into whether and how such projects could be supported in the next financial perspective. At the end participants will be invited to explore options, generate ideas and find solutions on how Slovenia as well as the EU could systematically, and better, support industrial symbiosis projects.
Working languages will be Slovenian and English. Simultaneous interpretation will be provided.
The event is organized by the Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy, a partner within the SYMBI project. The number of seats is limited. You are kindly requested to register for the event by 28 February 2018 at the latest by completing and submitting this online registration form.

Warmly welcome to join us!
