During the 90 years of history of the Tour de Hongrie, Miskolc has been the start or the destination point of this high prestigious road bicycle race 31 times. Similarly to last year, a wild range accompanying event, the so-called Miskolc B!ke Day had been organized on 18 August by the Municipality of Miskolc in alliance with Hungarian Red Cross Foundation, Decathlon, MIKOM Ltd and Organization Team of the Tour de Hongrie.
As destination point of the competition, the aims of the organizers were not only to provide appropriate circumstances for the running-in section, but also to promote cycling and healthy lifestyle for the citizens. On the largest bike-party of Hungary on the St. István Square (in the heart of Miskolc) more than 5000 visitors had the chance besides cheer up the racers to take part on the MINI Bike (for kids), MAD Bike (for extreme bike funs), Miskolc Bike (local bike clubs), GIVE! Bike (donation program) and after party with popular DJs.
TRAM info corner got a special place within the program as well, because the modification of modal split in Miskolc towards sustainable transportation (as cycling) is one of the main aims of the city’s mobility development concept. This goal will also appear in the action plan of the ongoing Interreg Europe financed project.
