BUILD2LC partners have presented in Zagreb (Croatia), within the framework of an interregional meeting of the project BUILD2LC (Boosting low carbon innovative building rehabilitation in European regions), several good practices in the field of sustainable rehabilitation and construction. These good practices, learned thanks to the experiences in their respective regional projects about energy efficiency in buildings and sustainable construction and rehabilitation, could be replicable and useful for the rest of the project partners.
This first interregional meeting of the BUILD2LC project held in Croatia, (after the kick-off meeting held on Seville in May) focused on the exchange of good practices among partners and several activities related to the four fields of the BUILD2LC project: new financial instruments, encourage the demand and promotion, improve the skills of workers of the sector and innovation. The ultimate objective of the Interreg Europe projects is facilitating the interchange of good experiences among the participating regions and, this way, to gain a positive influence on the design and elaboration of local policies.
BUILD2LC partners had the opportunity to know the state-of-art of sustainable construction in each region, as well as the main barriers, needs and opportunities. This will facilitate the bilateral cooperation among BUILD2LC partners and regions.
As an integral part of the meeting, the host partner (North-West Croatia Regional Energy Agency, REGEA), organized two study visits to some Croatian good practice examples:
Energy Centre Bracak, an example of successful repurposing of a historic Manor house in public ownership through the desing of an innovative an useful concept for the use of the space as well as the application of new technical solutions on a buiding under cultural heritage protection during the energy rehabilitation process. This historic house will be the future headquarters of REGEA and will enjoy a B-class energy certificate despite being built more than 150 years ago.
The second study visit was to three reconstructed public building of varying purposes (nursery, city office, home for the elderly) within ZagEE project, as examples of the successful identification and use of new financial mechanisms for funding energy rehabilitation of public buildings as well as the application of different technical solutions depending on the purpose the building serves. ZagEE is an ambitious project lead by the Zagreb municipality to lower the consumption of energy in municipal buildings.
