COCOON was presented at the international congress AquaConSoil “Sustainable Use and Management of Soil, Sediment and Water Resources”. It was a great success with interesting presentations, special sessions and fruitful discussions (book of abstracts). There was a matchmaking event and an exhibition area. The conference dinner on Thursday in the beautiful Selsius restaurant was an absolute highlight as well.

In the session “Strategies for managing large scale pollution” Jan Frank Mars from RWS Soil+ presented the Interreg Europe project COCOON and the Dutch objectives within it.

Concluded was that there is a contradiction between the EU landfill directive and the EU soil policy. Whereas the EU directive demands monitoring and control for a period of at least 30 years, the soil policy asks for dynamic spatial planning and no net land take in 2020.
