In order to collect information about landfills, landfill management, landfill management activities and policy issues, an inventory was developed on these issues. This was filled in by the COCOON partners for their region: Andalusia (Spain), Brandenburg (Germany), Cyprus, Flanders (Belgium), Malta and the Netherlands. The findings on landfill management based on the reactions in the questionnaire were summarised in the report on mapping. It is not a list of all detected landfills with a detailed description of their characteristics. The emphasis is far more on the availability and accessibility of landfills and the current policies. It is interesting to see that on former landfills adequate information is often lacking, though this info is of course a prerequisite for good landfill management (policy).
