Geert-Jan ten Napel, Senior Policy Officer Sustainability at the Province of Flevoland, gave an introduction in the Green Deal on Sustainable landfill management (iSLM). The goal of iSLM is to reduce the risk for the environment and the health, while also shortening the active aftercare phase.

By shortening the aftercare periode, no transfer of problems and costs related to landfill management is shifted to the next generations. Financial-economic interests, social interest and environmental and ecological interest are weighed to come to a sustainable model of landfill management that is acceptable for the regions and the state. At this moment there are three pilots ongoing.
