This presentation was held at the thematic event focussed on interim landfill use in Almere on June 6, 2018.
Angel Martinez Parra (Ferrovial Services) focused in his presentation on stability and operational issues in landfill mining projects. With regard to the stability of the landfill a mechanical characterisation of the waste is needed. This can be done by aboratory experiments on waste samples or in situ field tests. The two tests from field studies described during the presentation are the pre-bored pressuremeter test and the cone penetration test. With regard to the operational aspects of landfill mining to assess prior to carry out a landfill mining project or during operation, the aspects of leachate, combustion, odor were described in the presentation that ends with some recommendations for landfill mining projects.
