Dr. Cordina’s thematic talk focused on the economic framework surrounding the Waste Roadmap adopted by Malta. This framework has incorporated aspects of the EU Waste roadmap prepared by the EU for the Member states at risk of meeting the 2020 target on recycling rates.
The use of economic instruments in specific is investigated in this talk, where schemes such as Pay-as-you-throw, taxation and producer responsibility are explored.
Not only financial aspects of the schemes are considered in the economic framework, but also the influence of -societal dependent- social, educational, and behavioral cues are taken into account.
