During the month of May, the researchers Dr. Javier Cárcel, Dr. Jaime Llinares and Dra. Fabiola Colmenero held several meetings with different stakeholders and public authorities in the construction sector to present the toolkit developed by CONDEREFF project. It aims to improve resource efficiency and management of C&D waste. These sessions are considered in one of the activities in the action plan developed by UPV.

Participants: UPV technicians and researchers, public authorities, Professional Associations of Architects and Engineers, CDW waste management companies, experts, and professionals in the construction field.

Objectives:
These training meetings aim to raise awareness of the knowledge acquired through the project, to present the CONDEREFF toolkit and to influence future policy instruments and procedures concerning the management of construction and demolition waste.

A team of researchers at the UPV led by Dr. Javier Cárcel Carrasco (Professor in the Department of Architectural Constructions and Principal Investigator of the project), has developed a toolkit that allows improving traceability of CDW from the project phase to its final phase, in order to avoid illegal dumping of waste and ensure their correct treatment. The Polytechnic University of Valencia has organised a series of small sessions with stakeholders related to the waste management policy instrument of the Valencian to show the operation of the toolkit developed by the CONDEREFF project.

First session was hold online on 10 May and representatives of the Valencia Regional Government were invited, among them, Olimpia Ferreiro (director general for ecological innovation in construction) and Roman Grisolía (head of the projects section of the directorate general for ecological innovation in construction).
The resources of the administration to control and monitor construction and demolition waste are currently limited, which is why the technicians appreciated that the tool was so easy to use. However, they suggested that it would be great further digitalization of some forms to be able to enter the whole information digitally, which is foreseen for future versions of the toolkit. They also stated it would be interesting to integrate the toolkit with other existing tools and coordinate it with legislation/regulations on DRC.

On the other hand, on 20 May, the tool was presented in the town hall of Bétera (Valencia), where UPV was received by the mayoress, María Elia Verdevío Escribá, together with the town planning, buildings and legal services councilors and a large part of the municipal technical team. They showed special interest in the issues of action in the face of environmental, social and technological changes, with a predisposition to future collaborations and support with CONDEREFF project and toolkit.

Finally, the tool was presented to different official professional associations of the Community such as Association of Architects of Alicante on 12 May, the Association of Quantity Surveyors, Technical Architects and Building Engineers of Valencia on 17 May and the Association of Architects of Valencia on 26 May. In these sessions it was possible to gather more technical considerations to take into account in implementing the toolkit from the attendees, who were specialized in the sector.

Conclusions:

At the end of the sessions, a short questionnaire was given to the attendees. The feedback received in this questionnaire from the participants is generally very positive. The attendees expressed their satisfaction with the project findings presented in the sessions and a special interest in the CONDEREFF toolkit, which they supported as useful for improving traceability and waste management, thus preventing illegal dumping of waste.
