Although the collection and treatment of excavation and demolition materials has been an obligation under the Greek legislation for years, there is a gap regarding the specifications of these secondary aggregates for their reuse in private and public works. Within this framework, a new working group of Engineers and special scientists is working towards the drafting of Technical Specifications for CD Waste materials, after undertaking the necessary laboratory on waste samples from waste treatment plants.
Following the signing of the Action Plan for the Project CONDEREFF, and particularly for the Action 3 «Replacement of New Materials by recycled ones (CDW)», a Programming Contract between the Region of Thessaly, the University of Thessaly and the Technical Chamber of Greece was signed aiming the "Development of Technical Specifications of secondary aggregates derived from Excavation, Construction and Demolition Waste (ECDW)".
Within the above framework, the Working Group, which consists of the special scientists Dr. Spiliotis Xenophon – Chemical Engineer, Professor of the University of Thessaly, Paleochorlidis Evdokimos – Mechanical Engineer, Antoniou Evangelia - Civil Engineer and Zoi Papavassiliou - Civil Engineer, will attempt to draw Technical Specifications fow CDWaste materials, after undertaking the necessary laboratory on waste samples.
Regarding the importance of the project, the President of the Technical Chamber of Central and Western Thessaly, noted: "In order to achieve the circular economy, the reuse of recycled materials and their return to the economy is the issue. However, although the collection and treatment of excavation and demolition materials has been an obligation under the legislation for years, unfortunately there is a gap regarding the specifications of these secondary aggregates for their reuse in private and public works. In this prospect, the national initiative of the Regional Governor of Thessaly, Mr. Konstantinos Agorastos, for the development of the relevant Technical Specifications, is of great importance. We are particularly happy to participate and undertake its completion through a relevant program contract concluded with the Region of Thessaly and the University of Thessaly.
