Taking advantage of the ERNACT network of regions helping to share know-how between ERNACT Regions in the fields of connectivity among others, a delegation of people of Derry City and Strabane District Council travelled to Seinäjoki in the Ostrobthnia Region on 18 September, to get acquainted with the fibre networks. The Regional Council of South Ostrobothnia is working on fibre network in the locations of Seinäjoki, Kuusiokunnat and Suupohja.
Jose Manuel San Emeterio, Project Manager at ERNACT, highlighted the opportunity to see closely how fast fibre network connections work in Finnish rural areas. South Ostrobothnia being known in Europe as a pioneer in fibre network affairs, which ERNACT contributes to promote in Europe, this experience was a good example for the Derry & Strabane delegation: They could see how many services could be run successfully and the benefits of fibre optic networks for rural development maximized.
The Regional Council of South Ostrobothnia, Economic Development Agency of Suupohja Region and ERNACT are all partners in the ERUDITE project, aimed at improving the digital capabilities of rural and urban areas in the EU.
