FINCH Project is celebrating the designation of Biella City (Piedmont Region, Italy) as UNESCO Creative City, for the Crafts & Folk Art cluster. The city candidacy was promoted and supported by FINCH Italian Stakeholder, Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Biella met by the Project Partnership during the 1st Interregional Workshop meeting , organised by Regione Piemonte and University of Torino and hosted in Biella, for the Study Visit session.
“All over the world, these cities, each in its way, make culture the pillar, not an accessory, of their strategy,” said UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay during the awarding ceremony occurred on the 30th October 2019 in Paris “This favours political and social innovation and is particularly important for the young generations.”
The UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) was created in 2004 to promote cooperation with and among cities that have identified creativity as a strategic factor for sustainable urban development. The 246 cities which currently make up this worldwide network, work together towards a common objective: placing creativity and cultural industries at the heart of their development plans at the local level and cooperating actively at the international level.
