University of Patras held its first stakeholder group meeting at the Conference & Cultural Centre of the University of Patras at University Campus of Patras, in Greece, on the 30th of May 2017. Over 30 stakeholders showed up, representing (among others) public authorities, chambers of commerce, universities, authorities with procurement departments, business associations etc.
The meeting was organized in two sessions. During the first session, Professor Christos Bouras, scientific coordinator of the GPP4Growth project delivered presentations concerning the GPP4Growth project, its main activities, goals, initiatives and the problems raised in the field, and summarized the activities of the project that would help meeting the high demands and ameliorate the existing policies of the designated policy instrument. Similar MED projects were presented by professor of the Civil Engineering Department of the University of Patras, Professor Georgios Stefanidis, called GRASP and GRASPINNO and finally, MSc lawyer and visiting fellow of the University of Harvard, Thomas Stavropoulos analyzed the legal background of Public Procurement in Greece.
During the second session, the role of the stakeholders in the GPP4Growth was explained by the University of Patras. Important questions were raised concerning public procurement procedure weaknesses, public tender processes, green criteria adoption and possible measures to facilitate the adoption. A fruitful dialogue concerning the participation in public procurements and issues about the distrust between contracting parties took place.
The participants showed great interest in the project’s issues and they stated that they look forward for the next stakeholder meeting in six months.
