Founded in 1823, Liverpool John Moores University, or LJMU for short, currently hosts a student body of 25,000 from over 100 countries as well as 2,500 staff, and 250 degree courses making LJMU one of the largest, most dynamic and forward thinking universities in the United Kingdom.
Regarding the HELIUM project, LJMU has developed an ENoLL (European Network of Living Labs) accredited open innovation environment or living lab through work with persons suffering from dementia and its willingness to extend it to different groups at local, national and transnational level. In this, LJMU places a focus on a user-centric research approach while working alongside a host of local SME’s as well as large multinationals across the health and social care sector. John Moores has a significant presence in the Liverpool City Region due to its internationally recognized R&I capacities, with an impact reaching beyond academia, benefiting individuals, communities, industry and policy makers throughout the United Kingdom as well as on an international level. In this regard, LJMU is also an active member and partner of the Liverpool City Region Local Enterprise Partnership which is also a partner within HELIUM.
Through the project, LJMU aims to learn from the different European Good Practices in order to not only strengthen, but also scale up its living lab activities, based on which innovation projects in the health and well-being sector in line with the ESIF Strategy for the region can be elaborated.
