First stakeholder meeting in Gelderland
On the 27th of March, the Province of Gelderland organised the first stakeholder meeting within the Innocastle project. In the province of Gelderland over 550 places with ‘estate qualities’ have been identified. Source: Gelders Genootschap, 2018.
The main objective of the meeting was to explore, discuss and improve: The role of government agencies in the processes of maintaining, developing and improving historic country houses, castles and landed estates in the province of Gelderland. Together with approximately 25 participants, three present-day challenges in relation to country and landed estates were explored:
A. climate adaptation;
B. heritage tourism;
C. spatial fragmentation.
In Gelderland, the province works together with heritage agency Gelders Genootschap and the Technical University of Delft. Cooperation with estate owners and governments is essential. The focus lies on two regions that are abundant in castles, country houses and landed estates, namely Gelders Arcadia and the IJssel & Berkel region. At the first stakeholder meeting, the province invited a representation of estate owners and representatives of various governmental institutions such as municipalities, national institutions for cultural heritage, forest management institutions, tourism boards and water boards.

Each partner of Innocastle will organise three stakeholder meetings throughout the project. The objective of these sessions is to create an action plan together to improve local policy instruments.
In the Province of Gelderland, the policy instrument addressed is the policy programme “Culture and Heritage” / Beleidsprogramma Cultuur en Erfgoed.
